Group Dons Blue Attire to Raise Autism Awareness

MEMBERS of the Mackay Autism Support Group were feeling a little blue yesterday but they were far from sad.

Yesterday marked Autism Awareness Day.

The blue attire is expected to continue throughout the month of April in support of Autism Awareness Month.

The blue sky was no match for the 15 members of the support group who gathered at the Civic Precinct Fountain, at the Mackay Regional Council administration building yesterday.

Mackay Autism Support Group volunteer co-ordinator Debbie Brooker said while the fountain wasn't ready to sport blue water yesterday morning, it would throughout the month.

The Mackay Autism Support Group helps more than 150 families who have children with autism.

C[pounds sterling]It's not easy to get autistic kids out (there yesterday), that's the nature of autism; they don't want to do things like that,C[yen] Mrs Brooker said.

Spreading the awareness about what autism is and what people with autism can do is a major focus of the month's campaign. …
