ALAN PARDEW has summed up his love for the Geordie public ahead of the Magpies' crucial European push by admitting: "This is my happiest period in management." Pardew says that leading Newcastle United's charge to continental competition has eclipsed taking West Ham to the FA Cup final and into Europe six years ago.

The Londoner believes that the passion for football on Tyneside can't be replicated elsewhere and feels that even pushing Newcastle into the top six has injected a similar feeling to reaching a major cup final to the city.

Pardew - who says that Newcastle are a year ahead of schedule in his grand five year plan - told the Chronicle: "I've enjoyed this more than any other season - even the season I got the FA Cup final with West Ham.

"This is a big club and to have the city in such great spirits and in such a great place in terms of following the team and looking forward is fantastic.

"Usually only a cup final unites a city but not here. …
