IN A future project sci-fi siren Summer Glau may be turning over a rained-out hay-field or driving a tractor across sun-bleached fields.

It is a far-cry from playing tough but tender River Tam or potentially murderous machine Cameron in the Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles series, respectively.

We'll tell you all about it after detailing what in the meantime is a lot more exciting.

In two weeks' time Glau will arrive on the Gold Coast for the Supanova Pop Culture Expo.

This event visit is itself worlds apart from the shy young girl who became a ballerina because she did not need to speak.

aMy first acting class was speech therapy,a Glau said.

aI wasn't taking it with other actors, just regular people who needed help.a

She was a ballerina until 19, when she broke one of her toes and could no longer balance on them.
