Sugar Deal Still Sweet; Maryborough Development to Go Ahead

THE new owners of Maryborough Sugar have backed the $500 million Mary Harbour development to go ahead as planned.

The marina and residential estate took one step closer to reality in October last year after being included in the Fraser Coast regional plan.

But question marks were raised about the project's future when developers MSF Sugar were bought out by Thai company Mitr Phol.

However, after visiting Maryborough, the new owners have confirmed it will go ahead under the same timeframe as previously projected.

aMitr Phol are happy with the progress of the Mary Harbour development and want to support the management in bringing that online as planned,a MSF Sugar CEO Mike Barrie said.

The development will create 1300 new homes, a 300-berth marina and a beach-style swimming lagoon on the Mary River opposite Aubinville, with shops, cafes, a sports centre, parks, plus extensive cycling and walking tracks to create a avillagea atmosphere. …
