Town Win Final in Emphatic Fashion; YESTERDAY'S NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL

SPENNYMOOR Town lifted the Durham Challenge Cup with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Gateshead Reserves at the Hetton Centre yesterday.

The STL Northern League side made a dream start when Adam Johnston headed past goalkeeper Tim Deasy following excellent play on the wing by Anthony Peacock and Daniel Moore.

The Tynesiders conceded again on the stroke of half time. A quickly-taken free-kick by Keith Graydon found Gavin Cogden who went around two defenders before firing past Deasy.

It was just about all over for Gateshead on 62 minutes. Peacock, Craig Ruddy and Stephen Capper combined to set up Moore and he headed into the net from six yards.

In the STL Northern League First Division, Newcastle Benfield and Whitley Bay shared the points at Sam Smiths ground. Good pressure by Bay midfielders opened up the chance for Paul Chow who buried a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

John Alexander levelled midway through the second half and four minutes later the Seahorses had Callum Anderson sent off. …
