ENVIRONMENTAL concerns in relation to three potential coal ports in Keppel Bay were raised at a special Rockhampton Regional Council meeting on Thursday.

Keppel and Fitzroy Delta Alliance spokeswoman Ginny Gerlach gave a 45-minute presentation, outlining the projects, and the environmental concerns of KAFDA in relation to those projects. Ms Gerlach's presentation followed a notice of motion proposed by Cr Bill Ludwig submitted to council early last month, which outlined a request to prohibit coal ship movement in Keppel Bay, but has not been passed.

The three projects include Xstrata's Balaclava Island Coal Export Terminal, the Mitchell Group's Fitzroy Terminal and the Gladstone Ports Corporation's proposal for wharf development on the north side of Curtis Island and Sea Hill. …
