WORK is about to start on a new six-storey State Government building in the city centre.

Verde Property director Stephen Gosling said construction of the five-star, environmentally friendly building at the intersection of Gordon and Nelson Sts would begin on April 26.

C[pounds sterling]We would anticipate the building will be ready for tenants by August next year,C[yen] Mr Gosling said.

C[pounds sterling]There'll be a variety of four or five government departments in the building

C[pounds sterling]There will be six storeys with 167 car parks, which has all been approved by (Mackay Regional) council.C[yen]

Mr Gosling said the whole building has been leased by the State Government apart from one spot.

C[pounds sterling]There's still a coffee shop to be leased,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]But the whole building will be 7000sqm.

C[pounds sterling]A lot of offices are in the industrial areas, so once the building is completed it will support city shops and other facilities. …
