Award Winners Are Top of the Class

DOZENS of children became VIPs for the night after they scooped top honours at this year's Newcastle Schools' Achievement Awards.

Held annually at St James' Park, the event aims to praise young people who have shown determination and hard work in and outside the classroom over the last school year.

What than a Seventy-four pupils won awards in categories ranging from sports and music to performing arts and service to the community, after being nominated by their teachers.

AThe awards are staged by Newcastle City Council to recognise all-round excellence in pupils aged four to 19.

Each child was awarded with a certificate and the prize of a pounds 10 gift voucher for Eldon Square by Newcastle Eagles' coach Fab Flournoy.

Fab said: "It's fabulous to get the chance to meet so many inspirational kids and hear so many fantastic stories of young people achieving against the odds.

"As a city I have always thought that Newcastle can be very proud of its young people, and these awards prove it". …
