Brigid D'Arcy-Sarnaik shows us the dining room of her four-bedroom barn conversion in Prestwick Village, near Newcastle airport, which she shares with husband Yashin and Labrador Ralphie. The 47-year-old has her own business D'Arcy Interior Design.

room is How would you describe it? It's a beautiful, rustic, four-bedroom barn conversion, built from brick and stone and sitting among four other barn conversions and a farmhouse. All five barns are completely different in design, colour and size so they are all unique which is lovely. It's away from the road so it's really private and we're right in the middle of fields, so the views are stunning particularly at sunset.

How long have you lived there? Just over three-and-a-half years.

Why did you move there? To be in the country and to have a big garden for the dog. We also wanted to be close to the A1 and Newcastle city centre. We'd lived in Jesmond for years and loved the buzz of being there, but reached the stage where we wanted a proper grown-up home.

How much did you pay for it? We viewed it at the start of the recession and it was on the market for pounds 750,000. We got a bit of a bargain as we eventually paid pounds 675,000.

Who lives with you? My husband Yashin, who's strategic director for an energy services company, and our gorgeous black Labrador Ralphie.

What's your favourite room? It's actually quite hard to answer this question as I love our kitchen, bedroom and new bathroom. This dining room is very special and I love the colour of the feature wall. It brings out the pinks and purples of the brickwork and looks great with the curtain colours. I love to cook and we have friends around for dinner quite a lot so this room is full of happy memories of great nights and Christmas dinners.

No doubt it'll be host to many more!

What are your favourite homes and interiors shops or websites? I love Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian properties. My tastes are diverse because I like traditional classic design, but I also love contemporary interior design in old property. I think that when done right it looks stunning. …
