DELICACY Cert 12A, 108 mins ONE of these days Audrey Tautou (right) will not be asked to play the sweetly beautiful gamine everyone falls in love with, even though it has been more than a decade since she starred in Amelie. But in David Foenkinos's wispy French comedy (made with his brother Stephane) about second-chance love she has to do it all over again. You will find her typically charming or a trifle wearing, according to taste.

Tautou is Nathalie, who we first see falling deliriously in love in a romantic Paris setting with her handsome young husband (Pio Marmai). But when he dies three years later in a car crash she buries herself in her work as a business executive, remaining aloof from love until a plain-as-apikestaff Swedish colleague (played by the good Belgian actor Francois Damiens) inveigles himself into her surprised affections. It's lightweight stuff masquerading as something more serious and too cutesy for my taste. But others may disagree.

EDGE Cert 12A, 92 mins CAROL Morley made the impressive Dreams of a Life but this forerunner feature shows little of that quality. In it, a washed-up pop star (Paul Hilton) arrives at the Cliff Edge Hotel, Eastbourne, looking for some sort of inspiration. He meets Maxine Peake's guilt-ridden Elly, who is desperate to recover from a possibly murky past.

There are others in the hotel, including two unsettled teenagers ( Joe Dempsie and Nichola Burley) and an older woman (Marjorie Yates), who eventually sort themselves out and solve a suicide mystery. Unfortunately neither the direction nor the cinematography are up to this sort of chamber work, and the screenplay hardly suffices.

THE GOSPEL OF US Cert 12A, 110 mins IN EASTER 2011, Michael Sheen directed and starred with National Theatre Wales in The Passion, staged in Port Talbot, his home town. The play tells of a kind of prophet called The Teacher, who takes on those intent on destroying the community in the name of corporate business. …
