Carter Hits Back at Johnson; MP Remarks on Court Case

MAYOR Brad Carter has written to Premier Campbell Newman to outline the council's position on the court case involving a contractor who claimed he is owed millions of dollars.

Cr Carter said he felt he had to react in the face of fierce criticism of the council's position by Member for Gregory Vaughan Johnson and mayoral candidate Lea Taylor.

In yesterday's Bully Mr Johnson called the council an absolute disgrace of the highest order and said he would ask the Attorney General and State Treasurer to intervene in a legal dispute between the council and Bailey Civil Constructions, the main contractor on the Yeppoon water pipeline.

In his letter Cr Carter expressed concerns that a member of the government had made public comment on a legal matter awithout any understanding of the matters in questiona.

He said: aI am very disappointed with the comments by Mr Johnson and Mr Taylor who are expecting this council to pay millions of dollars to a contractor when the council considers that it has paid all monies in accordance with its contractual obligations. …
