SPONSORSHIP for athletes is hard to come by at the best of times, let alone during a period of economic decline.

The economic outlook took a back seat last month when Sunshine Coast construction company Warrego 54 learnt about the bad fortunes of local rower Todd Cohen.

Cohen was to compete in Hawaii this month at the renowned Molokai solo race but was left stranded due to the collapse of Air Australia.

Having paid for his tickets with cash, Cohen didn't qualify for a refund leaving the in-form rower devastated at the prospect of missing out on his chance at glory.

Without sponsorship, it was with a heavy heart that Cohen accepted that he couldn't compete in the coveted event.

That would have been a tough pill to swallow with Cohen strongly building up to the Hawaiian race after winning the Hamilton Island and Australian titles respectively.

That's when Warrego 54 stepped in to offer Cohen some much needed support by picking up the tab to get him to Hawaii. …
