Seniors' Rifles Stolen on Family Holiday

TWO Hervey Bay seniors have been charged with failing to secure weapons after a stash of rifles was stolen from their car while on a family holiday.

Police said they were now searching for the three rifles and a shotgun, along with some knives and ammunition, pinched from the car at Narangba, south of Caboolture, last week.

The 69-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife were visiting relatives when the weapons were stolen from the vehicle between April 19 and 20.

The missing guns include a Miroku M10 shotgun, two Ruger centre fire rifles and a .22 Anschutz rifle.

Senior Sergeant Ash Stanke, officer in charge of Burpengary police station, said the Bay couple called police to report the theft but his officers were forced to charge them after learning how the weapons had been stored.
