Late Collapse Is Costly for Bears

REDCAR Bears must avoid a repeat of last night's second half collapse at Scunthorpe if they are to get anything out of tomorrow's trip to Newcastle.

The Practical Car and Van Rental Bears had given as good as they got - and more - in the first nine heats of their League Cup clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

At that point the scores were level at 27-27 and the visitors even briefly had their noses ahead in the early stages.

But after that they capitulated. All the remaining heats went the way of the hosts who recorded a comfortable 54-36 triumph.

Max Dilger had electrical problems with his first choice bike and had to switch to a machine set up for small tracks, but that aside there was no explanation for the sudden collapse.

The meeting produced some good racing, the highlights for a large travelling contingent being Aaron Summers keeping an eager Josh Auty behind him in heat four and Carl Wilkinson finding a gap that didn't even appear to be there as he roared past Thomas Jorgensen four races later. …
