THIRTY years ago, the Toowoomba Youth Service started with one full-time staff member to deal with a huge shortfall in services for young people in need.

Now it operates with 15 permanent staff and provides assistance to more than 2000 youths in the Toowoomba area.

Some of the services it provides include emergency accommodation for homeless youth, family counselling, financial support and assistance for young people attending children's court.

The youth service has just celebrated its 30th anniversary and manager Michelle Wiersma is seeking help from the public to ensure its survival into the future.

Ms Wiersma said the need for the service had never been greater with the service's entire quarterly budget already exhausted.
