Students Gain Hands-On Feel of Medical Crises

HIGH school students were confronted with real-life medical emergencies at the Maryborough Base Hospital last week as part of Queensland Health's healthcare engagement program.

The secondary school students from throughout the Fraser Coast gathered at the Education Research Collaboration building in Maryborough last week to experience a hands-on approach to medical training.

The healthcare engagement program, which is now in its second year, allowed students to delve into the lives of healthcare professionals in order to learn more about working in the healthcare industry.

Queensland Health acting clinical nurse educator Dale Spanahke said the two-day program aimed to show students the wide variety of health professions involved in patient care.

aThe idea of the whole program is to get students thinking about the different healthcare professions and how they work together to provide patient care,a Ms Spanahke said.
