THE tranquility of the wellknown and much-loved Norton Green and its duck pond is at risk with the proposal to build a 68 house estate on the Red House School site when it moves to Wynyard in 2013.

Planners state that "access to the ring road is not permissible, only possible via the green."

It proposes car traffic for the 68 houses would filter by two narrow exits onto even narrower roads to the Green.

Two cars cannot pass at the moment. A single line clockwise road now encompasses the Green, which was originally built for horse and carriage traffic.

A few years ago, the owner of a cottage on the Green put a small rockery and flower beds in front of his home to deter school run parking and grass verge damage.

The council came down on him, stating he was 'encroaching on the Green' and threatening all manner of legal penalties until he withdrew his project.

I trust the council will look into this 'encroaching' aspect carefully regarding tarmac, kerbs and pavements. …
