TEENAGERS who faced difficulties in the classroom are now on the right tracks to employment.

The Eston Centre, in Normanby Road, Middlesbrough, is a referral unit which offers education other than at school.

It has recently produced success stories in Harry Fletcher, Anthony Pinchbeck and Steffan Bentley, all 16, as well as Levi McDonald, 15.

Anthony was at Gillbrook School, in South Bank, and admitted he was "defiant" of education. The Guisborough lad said: "I was going there, no problem, but I was not doing anything." Anthony took part in the referral unit's School on Wheels project.

He is now on a work placement with Grahams Engineers at Seamer and is hoping it could lead to an apprenticeship.

He said: "It's really good. I'm learning skills I can use in my career."

Levi was at Laurence Jackson School, Guisborough, when he was referred to Nunthorpe School but things didn't work out there either.

He was sent on the School on Wheels project and now does one day a week at Right Traxs, learning about motorcycle safety and maintenance. …
