Young Coast Players Earn Selection in State Squad

SIX of the Sunshine Coast's most talented Australian rules players have been selected in the Queensland under-16 squad after their performances for the Sunshine Coast in the state championships in Brisbane last week.

The regional representative team of the Sunshine Coast, the Suncoast Power, finished third in the eight-team tournament, with wins over Gold Coast North and Gold Coast South before going down to the eventual champions, the Northern Brisbane Raiders.

Cameron Stevenson, Brandon Maki, Tom Buckle, William Kristelly, Daniel Henderson and Billy Mahony, who all play for Maroochydore AFC, have been named in the Queensland under-16 squad, the Young Scorpions.

Suncoast under-16 coach Kent Weightman said the team performed well and was indicative of the Sunshine Coast's strength in the sport.

aWe were pretty successful overall, despite the hiccup in the middle against North Brisbane,a Weightman said.
