WHETHER you're dodging potholes, spearing off into a side street to avoid Dan Murphy's traffic on a Friday afternoon or heading up the highway with a boat in tow, if you drive in Mackay then you want a car with get-up-a[approximately]n'-go.

To me, Ford cars have that

It's an x-factor; an indiscernible something that Ford lovers covet, and other car makers seek to emulate.

I always enjoy heading along to Powerhouse Ford.

For some reason, I feel as if I'm appeasing my inner rally driver.

Getting behind the wheel of a Ford provides a sense of moving up the motoring food chain.

This week was no different. I slid behind the wheel of the new G6 Limited Edition in a fantastic shade of Metallic Mocha, complete with leather trim seats and sparkling 17-inch alloy wheels to take the new edition to Ford's thoroughbred stable through its paces.

Powerhouse Ford new vehicle sales manager Rebecca Boyd pointed out the key features of the limited edition model, including an economical four-cylinder Ecoboost engine that performs like a six-cylinder.

What this means for a garden-variety driver like me is you get all the get-up-and-go you'd expect from a bigger engine without having to stop at the petrol station every day.

With the cost of fuel being so high a and with a family to run around all over town a saving money at the bowser is a real benefit.

I'd no sooner started the engine when I had the chance to use the reverse camera on account of the incredibly thoughtful driver who'd parked within a bee's eyelash of my rear bumper, forcing me to forward and reverse out of the world's tightest parking spot.

Thanks to the effortless and efficient turning circle on the G6 and the generous, crystal-clear display on the reverse camera that automatically engages as soon as you put the car into reverse, I was on the road in no time. …
