Superb Displays in Goal Make Krul Player of the Year for Rob

NEWCASTLE UNITED icon Rob Lee feels that the fact there has been a scramble for the Magpies' player of the season is a sign of their success.

The former Toon favourite feels that Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Hatem Ben Arfa, Fabricio Coloccini, Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote could all be classed as candidates.

But the 21-time England international eventually opted for Dutch star Tim Krul.

Chronicle readers and United fans have been voting for their player of the season in a hugely popular end-of-season online survey. And when asked the question, Lee told the Chronicle: "If I had to give it to anybody it would be Tim Krul. To keep Steve Harper out the team is something. He's kept out a very experienced goalkeeper and played extremely well."

Lee played in the great Entertainers team under Kevin Keegan and has been impressed by the Magpies' offensive formation in the past few weeks.

The legendary Toon No 7 feels the run of six wins on the spin has left player of the season a tough choice: "I think if Cisse hadn't have turned up when he did, Demba Ba would have been player of the season. …
