Little Champion in Every Sense; Flood Survivor Prevails

A LITTLE jersey cow that somehow survived being washed 5km down the Mary River in raging flood waters in January had a clean sweep of the Gympie Show yesterday, taking out every section in which she was entered, including the penultimate Supreme Champion Dairy Cow of the Show.

Not only that, the five-year-old Glen-Echo Parabel Muriel topped the annual Gympie Show dairy sale on Wednesday night when she was sold by father and son team Jeff and Chad Parker, of Kenilworth, to young dairy farmers Darren and Jeanette Grevett of Eumundi for a cool $7500.

Darren said at the time of sale he couldn't believe the Parkers were letting Glen-Echo Parabel Muriel go, but as Jeff pointed out, the little jersey had produced four calves a all of them females a and he hoped these would prove just as exceptional as their dam.

Chief steward Ray Zerner told the story of Glen-Echo Parabel Muriel's flood survival to the stands of spectators in the dairy ring yesterday, and the story was retold during the Grand Parade. …
