For the second consecutive season, Episcopal faded in extra innings against Pensacola Catholic, falling 5-4 in 10 innings to the Crusaders on Friday night in the Region 1-4A final.

Episcopal (20-10) had a 4-3 lead in the seventh, but several mistakes proved costly. Episcopal pitcher Joe Kincart hit Pensacola Catholic batter Jon Burkett with two outs in the inning. Chase Kiefer followed with an RBI triple to tie the score at 4-all and send the game into extra innings.

Mistakes once again cost the Eagles in the 10th.

Pitcher Jon Garcia's pickoff attempt at first went by first baseman Greg Shannahan and sent Kiefer all the way to third. A sacrifice fly by Avery Geyer to center field allowed Kiefer to score the game-winning run.

The Eagles committed five errors, from the fifth inning and on, to help Pensacola Catholic's comeback.

Geyer not only batted in the game-winning run, he pitched a complete game, striking out 14.

Episcopal got off to a fast start in the game and took a 3-0 lead into the fifth before the Crusaders forced a tie. Back came the Eagles, who got an RBI triple from Matt Henderson in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-3.

Pensacola Pace used a pair of home runs to knock Columbia out of the playoffs with a 9-3 win. Jayce Barber hit a two-run homer for the Tigers (16-12).
