THE revival of harness racing in Toowoomba continues to gather pace with Clifford Park Paceway set to host six TAB meetings next season.

The announcement of Toowoomba's return to front-line racing was made during a harness industry meeting in Brisbane on Sunday.

Negotiations between Racing Queensland and SKY Channel are continuing but the resurrected Darling Downs Harness Racing Club (DDHRC) is expected to be granted select Sunday race dates.

The move to reinstate Clifford Park Paceway as a TAB venue follows a change of leadership at Racing Queensland and persistent industry lobbying.

DDHRC secretary Anthony Collins said the swiftness of Toowoomba's acceptance back into the TAB racing fold was C[pounds sterling]surprisingC[yen] but one that will be welcomed by the industry.

C[pounds sterling]I think if you look back 18 months or so no one could possibly have envisaged how soon this would all take place,C[yen] Collins said.

Successful midweek TAB racing at the Paceway was ended in 2003 by the former Queensland Harness Racing Board. …
