Council CEO Faces Anxious Wait; Schwarten's Notice of Motion Could See Evan Pardon Dismissed

EVAN Pardon faces an anxious six-day wait before councillors decide whether to sack him.

Rockhampton Regional Council's chief executive sat expressionless yesterday as Cr Stephen Schwarten read out a notice of motion that could see him dismissed.

The veteran councillor waited until the end of the new council's first formal meeting before he delivered his bombshell.

He rose to say he intended to carry out an election promise to call for the head of the authority's top bureaucrat on the grounds of aineptitude and incompetencea.

Cr Schwarten's notice of motion was accepted and will be debated next Tuesday.

Mr Pardon, who took over as CEO two years ago after the resignation of Alastair Dawson, declined to comment after the meeting.

And none of the councillors said anything to indicate if they would support or reject the sacking call.

In the background statement in support of his sensational motion, Cr Schwarten gave a detailed explanation of the circumstances which had caused it. …
