Many Hands Set to Collect for the Salvos

RECORD numbers of high school and college students have volunteered to knock on doors this weekend for The Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal in Capricornia.

aWe have been blown away by the numbers,a the Salvos' Major Peter McGuigan said.

aClose to 900 students have signed up from schools in Rockhampton and Yeppoon.

aWe believe it's a sign of our young people really wanting to make a difference in the world today.

aThere's a lift in compassion and resolve to do something to make Australia a better place for all, particularly those doing it tough.a

The national appeal was conducted last weekend, but locally it was moved to this weekend because the Salvos wanted to recognise other important community events.

aWe actually entered a team ourselves in last weekend's Relay for Life. It was a wonderful and moving event down at CQUniversity for the outstanding cause of cancer research,a Major McGuigan said.

aThen there was The Million Paws Walk as well on Sunday morning. …
