Positive Principal's Prompting Pays Plenty as Pupils Pick Prizes

WIDGEE State School principal Rob Lonergan is always encouraging his students to give things a go, to aim for the sky.

His perseverance paid off recently for two students who entered the Rockhampton Beef Week Children's Poetry Competition, both of them winning a major prize.

Liam Clune's poem won him $50 and took out first prize while Charlee Griffith won second prize and $30.

SEVENTEEN players met on the Widgee greens this week, and competition was intense but the top place was finally taken by Lotti, now a spry 102, knocking out the competition with her score of 60 points.

Gloria took second place with 58 while Marilyn K was third with 51.

Mavis took out fourth place with 45 followed by Carl with 42 points.

Before play began on Monday members held a minute's silence in memory of Peter Ryan, a member for many years, who passed away last Friday.

Peter will be sadly missed but well-remembered.

He was a past president of the club, a fine player and a great supporter of indoor bowls not only in Widgee but throughout the Gympie region. …
