QUEENSLAND'S richest junior fishing competition is on this Sunday, right here in Mackay.

The annual Tackle World Junior Fishing Competition will be held at the Pioneer River boat ramp with fishing only in the Pioneer River.

Sonia Ball from Canegrowers, the event organiser, said up to 300 young anglers were likely to attend the not-for-profit community event hosted by Sunfish.

C[pounds sterling]We provide water, sunscreen, learn-to-fish lessons from the DPI and lots more,C[yen] Ms Ball said.

C[pounds sterling]There is $4000 in fishing tackle in the prize pool up for grabs.

C[pounds sterling]It's all free. We will have a marquee set up from 6am at the Pioneer River boat ramp.

Ms Ball said the weather forecast was for sun.

C[pounds sterling]So I'm going to hold the weather man to that, if it's not,C[yen] she said.

All junior anglers under 15 years, will receive an Angler Education Resource Booklet packed with loads of fishing tips and information and a Learn to Fish 2 DVD. …
