ORIGIN time can be a testing time.

One very parochial Toowoomba dad was left a bit shattered when he presented his young sons with two Queensland jumpers.

The mad-keen cane toad was rocked when one of the boys said he wanted a blue jersey.

Dad did the right thing and stood firm, explaining to the boy that he could have a blue jersey if he wanted a[pounds sterling] Cronulla, Cowboys etc.

But there would never be a NSW Blues jumper in the house.

Pete's TV cameo

AND chief Whisperer himself Peter Hardwick makes the files this week, courtesy of his guest appearance on national TV on Origin night.

Pete and mate Frank Moore and a couple of others were the featured Queensland supporters making a brief cameo before the game.

There is little truth to the rumour that the whites of their eyes were maroon. That red colour is believed to have been cause by some of the drinks consumed pre-game.

Expensive car wash

EMPLOYEE of a prominent Toowoomba real estate agency recently decided to earn brownie points by getting both his and his wife's cars washed.

Riding high on a sense of spousal achievement, he made two round trips to the nearest car wash some kilometres away.

The feeling of pride was rudely cut short when two tell-tale letters turned up in the mail.

It turns out our dedicated husband had passed the same speed camera twice in the space of half-an-hour.

Secret bureaucrats

THE hard-working bureaucrats in a certain Ruthven St building have been far too busy in the election aftermath to even update their website.

A glance at the website, designed to be the voice for the people, reveals little information regarding the elected members.

If you take the time to look at the websites of the other organisations that border the city you will find that they all have updated profiles and contact details of their elected members. …
