LATE on Friday afternoon, my heart was breaking for the show's organisers.

Trudging through rain, losing my footing in the mud and encountering an almost abandoned Sideshow Alley under the gloomy sky, had left me with a dreadful feeling.

The pavilions housing the farm animals were eerily quiet and it felt like nothing could salvage the loss being experienced by dedicated and resilient stallholders.

But fast forward to the same time the following day and things could not have been more different.

The sky was brilliantly blue and streaked with clouds that looked like they'd been shot from the back of a formation of fighter jets.

The brightly lit rides threw out spectacular streams of colour and screams that could be heard from miles away.

The aroma of dagwood dogs, fairy floss and popcorn filled the air and it was like the 2012 Fraser Coast Show had been reborn.

Country shows bring back so many fond childhood memories, whether it is riding the dodgems with dad, patting the ponies with mum or holding grandma's hand as she points out her yummy cakes. …
