New Cash Move in Fun Run

ORGANISERS of the seventh annual Ballina Lions Club Fun-Run-Walk next month have taken a lead from the Sydney City to Surf by allowing competitors to raise money for a cause of their own choosing.

John Grant, one of the organisers, said it was the first time the Ballina event had adopted the idea.

aEntrants will be invited to raise funds for not-for-profit organisations of their choice,a he said.

aThey will be encouraged to gather sponsorships from their families and friends and donate the money to their nominated charity, sporting club or other cause.a

There has been some concern that the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter coastal walk this month might detract from the number of entries, but Mr Grant remains optimistic.

aI don't think it will,a he said. aThey were good enough to put one of our entry forms into each bag they gave away, so people who wanted to enter will still be there. …
