NEWCASTLE International Airport has been recognised as the best airport in the UK in a comparison of how airports interact with their customers on Twitter. The EngagementIndex, an independent analysis published for business sectors such as supermarkets, train companies and financial services, is a score of how well a business is replying to messages directed to them.

In April and May, Newcastle Airport scored higher than any other UK airport.

Its score of 57 out of a hundred was way above the average score of 22.

The airport team has also carried out its own analysis to measure how well its voyage into social media is working which showed the airport is the 11th busiest in the UK by customer numbers, but is in the top ten for Twitter followers and Facebook fans.

When looking at the relative number of followers or fans to customer numbers, Newcastle appears at number six in the rankings. This demonstrates that the airport team encourages people to engage to a higher degree than many other airports. …
