There were 4.1 murders per 100,000 people in the Lismore LGA in 2011

There were 2.9 murders for every 100,000 people in the Byron Bay LGA in 2011

Half the murders in NSW in 2010 were domestic violence related

A LISMORE counsellor has revealed domestic violence incidents in the region are rising.

Christina Henry from the Lismore and District Womens Health Centre said she spends 70% of her time dealing with domestic violence and sexual assault victims.

She said in her 12 years in the job at Lismore the number of cases referred to her was steadily rising.

aIn 2010 just less than half the murders in NSW were domestic violence related and that is on the rise,a she said.

Over her years in the job Mrs Henry said she had seen a shift in attitudes toward domestic violence. …
