Couple Comes a Long Way; Bill and Hilda Claridge Celebrate 75 Years of Marriage on Tuesday

BILL Claridge, almost 96, and his wife Hilda, 91, of Rockhampton, have been sweethearts since their school days.

On Tuesday, June 5, Bill and Hilda's enduring love will have spanned 75 years of marriage.

C[pounds sterling]We first met when I was still going to school. Bill played cricket and football with my brothers,C[yen] Hilda said.

The couple were married in St Andrew's Presbyterian Cathedral, Bolsover St, Rockhampton on June 5, 1937.

After leaving school Bill went to work with his uncle as an apprentice painter.

C[pounds sterling]I've been a painter all my working life and I retired on my 65th birthday, August 29, 1981, which happens to fall on a Friday,C[yen] Bill said.

Bill and Hilda had six children, Robert, Kenneth, William, Stephen, Jennifer and Karen; 21 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and are excited to have one great-great-grandchild due in August.

The couple lived in their Rockhampton home for nearly 64 years before recently moving to Shalom Retirement Village. …
