Ballina Jockey Club will host the Murwillumbah Cup Preview on Friday, June 15, the last chance for automatic passage into the Murwillumbah Cup on June 24.

BRISBANE trainer Michael Lakey is pinning his hopes of winning the 1800m Murwillumbah Cup Prelude (1800m) tomorrow on a change of racing gear for feisty charge and topweight Kevejon.

aWe took the blinkers off last time and tried the ear muffs, and Alexandra Kitson, who rides for me, came off him saying he was more relaxed,a Lakey said.

aHe was closing on them late and the ear muffs just helped him settle early in the runa.

That was a fortnight ago on the Sunshine Coast over the same journey as the main event tomorrow.

aHis 1800-metre form is very good, and Alexandra won on him a few starts back on the Gold Coast over the trip,a Lakey said.

aWe tried him over longer. We put him over 10 furlongs (2000m) once but he pulled too hard, so we're just trying to get him to settle better so he can get the extra ground. …
