MULUMBU TALKING TO TOON ABOUT A MOVE; Mulumbu Insists He's Talking to Magpies about Move

BROM midfielder Youssuf Mulumbu claims he is in talks with Newcastle United over a switch to St James' Park.

The former Congolese international looks set to leave The Hawthorns this summer and says his agent is talking to the Toon and to Tottenham Hotspur. And news that United are looking to sign a defensive midfielder will increase speculation that Alan Pardew has begun planning for the departure of Cheick Tiote, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea.

"We have already started talking to teams like Newcastle and Tottenham," Mulumbu told a French football website.

"For now, I'm leaving it all in the hands of my agent and I hope to have good surprises on my return from vacation."

The 25-year-old former Paris-Saint Germain player joined the Baggies in January 2009, initially on loan before signing a permanent deal in the summer for a bargain pounds 175,000 fee.

Mulumbu admits he considered leaving last summer but decided against it and signed a new contract which runs until 2015.

However, he insists he is now ready for a new challenge. He said: "Last year, I thought it would be a little premature to go because it was my first full season. "But I confirmed my promise this season. I continued to show all my abilities and I think I now have to look for another challenge. That's why I hope to join a club in another class. "I had a good year, I'm pretty confident and I will leave it now to my agent. "I'm going to go on holiday and come back stronger because I know that another big season lies ahead." Mulumbu started 34 of West Brom's 38 Premier League games last season scoring once, and his performances earned him both the club's and the fans' player of the year awards. He represented France at Under-20 and Under-21 levels but played his senior international football for the Democratic Republic of Congo. …
