Music Fans Flock to See Festival Faves; Pop Acts Thrill as Thousands Enjoy Second Day of Evolution Event

THOUSANDS of music lovers gathered around the Tyne to enjoy the second day of the Evolution festival.

Revellers were treated to a range of music from new talent and old hands, but the highlights of the day were award-winning music producer Deadmau5, headlining the Spiller's Wharf stage, pop outfit Noah and the Whale and hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks.

Over two days, the North East's biggest music festival had a line-up jam packed with big names alongside some lucky local acts, including Sunderland's The Lake Poets and South Shields songstress Lulu James.

Crowds of around 30,000 came out to soak up the lively atmosphere and enjoy a bit of sunshine as they listened and danced to the music, which yesterday included local act Mausi.

Also taking to the stage amid cheers and applause were Band of Skulls, Here We Go Magic and Jessie Ware.

Among those attending was Jane Clark, 27, a recruitment consultant from Heaton, Newcastle.

She said: "It's been a brilliant line-up this year, it seems to be getting bigger and bigger acts each year like Deadmau5 and Dizzee Rascal.

"But saying that I've also really enjoyed seeing some of the less well-known acts and the local bands on the UMT Emerging stage.

"The atmosphere has been great even though the weather could have been nicer." The highlight of the weekend was rap sensation Dizzee Rascal, who headlined on Sunday night.

Afterwards, he thrilled clubbers in Newcastle when he dropped in following his performance.

The 27-year-old turned heads in Tup Tup Palace, where a Newcastle Fashion Week show was taking place.

Earlier, he was hailed by fans who chanted "Dizzee is a Geordie" before returning to the Evolution main stage for an encore.
