Ponga Gains State Colours; Young Star Continues to Shine

TOUCH FOOTBALL: Talented sportsman and Mackay High School student Kalyn Ponga continues to show promise on the football field and has been named in the Queensland under-15 touch football side.

Ponga, 14, was named after a series of strong performances for the Capricornia schoolboys under-15 side at the Queensland championships in Brisbane last week.

Capricornia won the plate final, placing seventh from 12 sides, with only one try separating first and eighth.

Ponga will now represent Queensland at the national titles in October in Brisbane.

Another Mackay footballer, Jye Del Simone, was also included in the Queensland under-15 side.

Ponga's touch football honour comes just weeks after he was included in the Queensland under-15 schoolboy rugby league side.

He will compete at the national titles in Darwin from June 23-29.

Ponga has been honing his touch football skills on Monday nights with the Tigers' men's A-grade side. …
