Monthly Cuppa Helps Unite the Region

Article excerpt

LAST week more than 30 locals and visitors attended the May Community Cuppa, with Nelson Parks from the Public Trustee's office in Maryborough giving a talk on the importance of making a valid will and appointing a power of attorney.

The session was enormously successful and lots of information was covered and discussed and leaflets and handouts supplied to everyone attending.

Mr Parks will return in the near future for more personalised appointments with residents who require more in-depth assistance.

The Community Cuppa is organised by the Widgee Community Complex for residents to discuss topics of local or major concern, to catch up on regional news and activities and share a morning cuppa with friends and neighbours.

Held on the last Thursday of the month the event is free but a gold coin donation to cover costs is appreciated.

The next Community Cuppa will be held on Thursday, June 28. Inquiries Eveline 5484 0053.

THOSE clever patchworkers have been working tirelessly on their friendship quilts which are looking ever so colourful and eye-catching.

With each member making two squares a month and swapping one with a fellow quilter, each quilt will have something from everyone and no two will be the same. The colours are outstanding and the designs while all different, blend in a unique fashion, turning each quilt into a distinctive piece of fabric art.

While reluctant to show them publicly at this time the patchworkers will hold a display of their finished items later in the year.

The club is open to anyone interested in taking up this age-old art, born from a necessity in centuries past to become a very popular and fulfilling hobby in current times.

FOURTEEN players met on Monday for another test of skill on the Widgee greens.

Bruce secured top place on the podium with 50 points, followed by David with 48. Charlie, Carl and Mavis tied for third place with 45 points each and Mavis took fourth spot with 42.

New players are welcome at Widgee Indoor Bowls as they are keen to increase their membership.

Play begins at 9am in the Memorial Hall with a break for a cuppa about 10.

Craft Group

THIS week's general meeting was quickly dealt with and the date set for the annual general meeting is Wednesday, July 4.

The AGM begins at 9.30am and will be chaired by life member Maureen Charlton.

The members were then able to venture into the final outcome of last month's cancer morning tea, with final figures putting the amount at more than $7250 which is the highest sum raised by the group thus far.

Putting their heart and soul into these morning teas is nothing new for members of the Widgee Craft Group and they were elated when advised of the results. …
