Private Funding for Highway? INTERCHANGE: Consortium's Offer Being Considered

THE state government is considering a proposal from a private company to build an interchange to the Pacific Hwy from Tweed Heads South.

Tweed MP Geoff Provest said aa local consortiuma had come forward to fund a temporary exit ramp on the northbound lanes of the Pacific Hwy.

Although Mr Provest refused to reveal the individuals who offered the funds or where the ramp was to be located, the Daily News believed the interchange would connect with Enterprise Ave, Tweed Heads South.

aThe state government is seriously considering the proposal,a Mr Provest said.

aWe have to be innovative and think outside the box.

Mr Provest said it was unfortunate the Tweed missed out on $30 million in funding for the interchange when the 2012/13 NSW Budget was announced on Tuesday.

aLike it or not we are going to have an increase in traffic,a he said.

aIt might be the M1 but to people in the Tweed, it's a local road. …
