A LONG established independent opticians in the area is changing its name.

Cooper& Flower, which has had practices in the Teesside area since 1925, is to become Cooper & Barr.

"The change is overdue recognition for Bob Barr, who has been an important part of the business for many years," says director Nicola Cooper-Heenan, whose grandfather William Cooper founded the company in Borough Road, Middlesbrough.

"Changing a name is a big decision for any business. We are an independent family business, and will remain so. Bob is part of the 'family'.

"If we'd like patients to read anything into the change of name, it is that we are not a business stuck in the past, but a progressive one which has its eye very much on the future."

In the past three years, Cooper & Barr has invested considerably in new equipment at its practices in Stokesley and Coulby Newham, and earlier this year installed state-of-the-art optomap retinal scanning machines at a cost of pounds 150,000. …
