WHAT happens to a gold mining town after the big boom is over?

That was the question three playwrights, including one from Bundaberg, were asking when they each spent three weeks living in Mt Perry, Mt Morgan and Cracow last year.

The result of their work will be shown tomorrow night at the Moncrieff Theatre when their three plays, Tales of the Underground, premiere.

It will then go to Mt Perry on Saturday night, showing at the Mt Perry Hall.

Bundaberg playwright Rod Ainsworth spent three weeks in Cracow, an ex-mining boom town that now has a population of just 50 people.

aWhat has emerged as part of our time spent in these regional towns is a fantastic mixture of fact and fiction, imagination and reality,a Ainsworth said.

aYou get three very different experiences as part of the one show a a tale of vaudeville and magic with a travelling showman and his goat, a father and his encounter with his long-time estranged daughter and a prospector in search of fame, fortune and freedom. …
