National Indigenous Selection Surprises Carter-Lowe

RUGBY UNION: At the start of the year, Urraween's Scott Carter-Lowe had his heart set on playing for Queensland indigenous schoolboys.

He achieved that last month when he led the side to victory at the national indigenous under-18 rugby championship in Alice Springs.

Little did he know it would lead to something much better.

Carter-Lowe will travel to Sydney next month after being picked in the Australian indigenous squad to contest the national schoolboys' championships.

The honour came as a great surprise to the 18-year-old.

aEver since I was in grade nine I've been aiming to play at this competition,a he said.

While he plays fullback and wing for the Fraser Coast Mariners in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union competition, Carter-Lowe will line-up at scrumhalf for the Australian indigenous team. It is a role he fulfilled with aplomb at the under-18 indigenous championships. …
