A LONER who had 188 child abuse images on his computer was given a suspended prison sentence with a sex offenders' treatment programme.

Steven Francis Pearson had the pictures - 80 at the second most serious category - on a computer seized by police on August 13 last year.

Cleveland Police acted on information received via the Metropolitan Police when they went to his home, Teesside Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor Sharon Elves said Pearson, 39, told officers there would be indecent material on the computer and gave them file locations and passwords.

Pearson, of Kirkleatham Street, Redcar, admitted 16 charges of making, and one charge of possessing, indecent photographs of children - his first criminal convictions.

He denied downloading any images before July 2008.

The prosecution did not accept this and said he was downloading images for five years longer than he claimed.

Graham Brown, defending, said: "Here we have a man who has had minimal sexual contact at any time in his life. …
