ANGRY boss Jitendra Duffill admitted he was "embarrassed" and that his Redcar Bears side "must do better" after their soft centre was ruthlessly exposed by trophy-chasing Newcastle.

The Practical Car and Van Rental Bears beat the weather to get last night's League Cup on at South Tees Motorsports Park but never looked like beating the Diamonds.

They crashed 58-37 to their local rivals which surpasses even their own biggest win on their home track this term.

The Diamonds are challenging for a semi-final place in the competition and Bears are bottom of the Northern Group table.

And it showed. The visitors banged in 5-1s in each of the first two races to set the scene and never looked back.

The Bears were slower out of the gate and too often were outbattled or outmuscled when in pointsscoring positions.

A major cause for concern was that Max Dilger's point for finishing ahead of team-mate Lee Smart, whose move to Redcar is turning into something of a disaster, was the only one scored by the home reserve pairing all night.

Ulrich Ostergaard and Carl Wilkinson looked fired up and hungry for battle despite each returning only four points, but inconsistency among the top five held the side back too.

That said, it must be noted that Newcastle - currently top of the Premier League - deserve credit as they are an excellent side who never know when they are beaten.

They forced the Bears into twice using the black and white tactical double helmet colour.

Aaron Summers could manage only second with Justin Sedgmen at the back in heat five but it was a different story when the pair came out together again in heat nine. …
