Northumberland's Fifiefofum Gallery reopened as Westside Contemporary, as reported in The Journal.

It's nine years since Sue Moffitt opened her gallery on the site near Newton, overlooking the Tyne Valley, which had once been the family farm.

"It's very difficult to pick on a single reason for doing it, but when we named the gallery originally, we wanted something that would be memorable because of where we are - not far from the A69 but, arguably, off the beaten track for an art gallery," explained Sue.

"As time has gone on we've come to accept that there are issues about spelling and people trying to find the place.

"It was quite a big decision but we've been closed since December so we've had time to plan it.

"We felt Westside reflected the site and what we do better. It is a bit more of a grownup name which reflects the way we want to go, for high quality, high-end contemporary art.

"I liked the quirkiness of Fifiefofum and Westside might seem a bit ordinary by comparison, but I think it does reflect where we are. …
