Rates to Go Up Today; Bin Service to Be Increased by Almost 10%

SUNSHINE Coast Council will hand down its 2012-13 budget today, bringing into effect a 3.6% general rate increase.

It will also enforce a waste management wheelie bin service increase of 9.2%.

However there will be no increase in key levies such as environment, public transport and heritage and continuation of pension remissions budgeted at $3.8million, with standard pensioner remissions now applying across the region, with both full and part pensioners eligible.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the priority in preparing the budget was finding savings and implementing a reasonable rate increase.

Cr Jamieson said all councillors had put in a lot of hours to ensure they were abreast on all issues.
