Big Nurseries Keel over in Tough Times

IT IS a growing trend and a disturbing one.

Two long-established Sunshine Coast nurseries are closing their doors, unable to cope with the decline in the industry.

Chevallum Wholesale Nursery held a massive auction last weekend and Jahdiel Nursery at Didillibah will hold one on Saturday.

Both had been established for more than 20 years.

Jahdiel Nursery owner Peter Bucknell said times were incredibly tough for those in the industry.

aThere's no development going on in the Coast,a he said.

aUntil it starts again, we can't afford to keep going.a

Jahdiel has been running for close to 30 years, with Mr Bucknell at the helm for 11 of those. He has been trying to sell it as a going concern, but could not even get anyone interested in leasing the property.
