A $3.3 MILLION upgrade to enhance disability access at Nambour train station has been put on hold indefinitely as part of the State Government's cost cutting measures.

Sources reveal that Queensland Rail will not proceed with the 2012-13 Nambour Disability Discrimination Act upgrade.

The project is expected to be revisited once appropriate funding can be identified.

The project was to have been a joint initiative between Queensland Rail and TransLink.

Commuter advocate Jeff Addison said the $3.3 million project would have revitalised the station and would have amade the former dank, dark subwaya more open, safe and accessible.

aI am disappointed that the Sunshine Coast is yet again on the receiving end of cuts to public transport facilities and services,a Mr Addison said.

aGlass walls were planned to give good visibility and safe amenity to this potentially unsafe area.

aIt would have made the station disability compliant under the Disability Discrimination Act. …
