LEADING trainer Michael Moroney says the decision to run tomorrow's Caloundra Cup meeting on the turf at Corbould Park will make it a serious staying test.

Moroney, whose charge Shenzhou Steeds will jump from barrier 11 in the listed race, said he would have preferred the race to be moved to the cushion track given the predicted heavy 10 rating for the course proper after days of heavy rain.

aIt's a difficult one, but I suppose we've got to take the track as it comes,a he said.

aI'd prefer it if they transferred it across to the cushion track, that would suit my horse better than going round the 2400m on an empty track.

aIt will make for a pretty tough mile-and-a-half, but I guess there will be horses in the race that will enjoy it.a

Shenzhou Steeds, who won the 1600m Sunshine Coast Guineas at the same meeting 12 months ago, was an impressive winner of the 2150m Ipswich Cup two weeks ago when he outstayed the Gai Waterhouse-trained Kinnersley. …
